dsc_2589-pano.jpg Somewhere in the Universe, some one is drawing the dotted line on the map, and pushing in thumbtacks. Like in the Indiana Jones movies but the silhouette  of an Econoline van instead of an airplane, and with Ennio Morricone’s music instead of John Williams’. As we push east along the southern border of Wyoming it is all scenic, landscapes, sage brush, gigantic ripples of sub-continental shelf pushing the horizon away from flat. The windmills are coming into view. Nothing to be too concerned about unless they start chasing us… you never know. This morning we wondered if we put the deer whistles on backwards… we checked the mirrors to see if we were being followed by a huge, teaming herd of deer… Like I said, you never know.

Snack time again, grapes, carrots, raw spinach. That should make our loved ones happy. But the real temptation will hit us when we reach the Bible Belt. Last night I thought I saw the glow of fried chicken to the south-east. But it was just Salt Lake. Needless to say, no WiFi yet, but on the HiFi, as I type; Rahat Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan,  Alice in Chains, Jar of Flies. Early B.B. King.

Small showers of big drops. It is hazy, leaning into overcast, Hot. And yep, more humid by the mile. Tonight we play the first road show @ the Old Curtis St. Bar, 2100 Curtis St. Denver, Colorado. Somebody call them and tell them.

That was a damn fine send off to play with Th’ Legendary Shackshakers last night. A sincere thanks to those boys. Their new guitarist, Dwayne fits in smoothly and fills out the rest of the band beautifully. And J.D.’s film, “Seven Signs” is a fine, intriguing work.

Anyway, it is always an honor and blast. And it was an appropriate send-off for us. As 9:am this morning rolled around we were packing the final gear into the van. We were all pretty quiet for the first two hours. But as the landscape began to inspire awe, so the conversation grew. Out through the Columbia Gorge, Eastward, out and up through the plains, across the border to Idaho. As I type, the sun is down, the air is fresh, fireworks in the distance, Hank Sr. on the stereo. Snack time.

hear that?

i heard a thrumming, buzzing hum

a drumming, chiming come

from the west tonight…

something wonderful this way comes

thought i

like the last cicada song of the season

plays on until it begins again

and something wonderful this way comes

Here we go!

road homeWe are hittin’ the road on the morning of Saturday the 5th for our summer tour. See the dates page of the site to see if we are coming near you, or just to marvel at the intense schedule we have laid out, (thanks to Christian @ Bucket City Agency, Barry, Dave, and some old friends of the band from back east.) 22 shows in 23 days (counting this Friday, July 4th at Dante’s.)

We are excited, to say the least. Thank you all for your help and support in getting us to this point. Now we need you to come out to the shows so we can be sure to make it back.
